Quranic Arabic
Every time a Muslim opens the Quran, something profound happens, not just spiritually, but linguistically. The Arabic text carries layers of meaning that translations simply cannot capture. Understanding those layers begins with recognizing what’s at stake when you engage with the Quran directly.
The rewards of reading the Quran are documented in authentic hadith and Quranic verses alike. From multiplied hasanat to elevated status in Jannah, consistent recitation transforms a believer’s life. Connecting with the original Arabic text deepens every reward exponentially.
1. Each Arabic Letter Carries Ten Multiplied Hasanat
Ten rewards per letter, that is the Prophetic promise attached to reading the Quran, confirmed in a hadith reported by Ibn Mas’ud This precise mechanism of divine generosity is one most Muslims have heard but rarely stopped to calculate.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“ مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا لاَ أَقُولُ الم حَرْفٌ وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلاَمٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ ”
“Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.”
(Jami’ al-Tirmidhi 2910)
Each Arabic letter—ا، ل، م—is counted independently. A single verse like الم (Alif-Lam-Mim) at the opening of Surah Al-Baqarah generates thirty hasanat minimum.
This reward multiplies further during Ramadan, on Fridays, and after Fajr and Asr prayers according to scholars of Sunnah.

2. Skilled Reciters Earn Noble Angelic Companionship in Jannah
Among the rewards of reciting the Quran skillfully is a distinction no worldly honor can match, companionship with the noble scribing angels in the next life. This is not a metaphor; it is a direct Prophetic statement.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“ الْمَاهِرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ وَالَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَتَتَعْتَعُ فِيهِ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شَاقٌّ لَهُ أَجْرَانِ ” .
“One who is proficient in the Qur’an is associated with the noble, upright, recording angels; and he who falters in it, and finds it difficult for him, will have two rewards..”
(Sahih Muslim 798)
This hadith contains two separate promises. The skilled reciter is raised to the company of noble angels. The struggling reciter—the one still learning, still working—receives double the reward.
There is no stage of your Quranic learning where you lose. The beginner earns double. The advanced reciter earns honor.
3. Your Recitation Becomes a Personal Intercessor After Death
One of the most extraordinary benefits of consistent Quran reading is what it earns you after death—a personal intercessor standing before Allah on the Day of Judgment. This reward is documented in a direct Prophetic promise that leaves no room for doubt.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لأَصْحَابِهِ”
“Recite the Qur’an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It..”
(Sahih Muslim 804)
The Arabic word used here is شَفِيعًا (shafi’an)—one who intercedes. This is the same role the Prophet ﷺ holds for his Ummah.
The Quran you recite in this life stands before Allah on your behalf in the next. This is not symbolic—it is a literal intercession documented in authentic narrations.
Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Al-Imran are specifically named as intercessors, described as two clouds or two flocks of birds shading their reciter.

Reading the Quran with an understanding does not simply add to your reward; it multiplies it in ways that blind recitation alone cannot reach. Recitation is rewarded per letter; comprehension is rewarded per reflection.
Allah says:
Kitābun anzalnāhu ilayka mubārakun liyaddabbarū āyātihī wa liyatadhakkara ulul-albāb
“[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.” (Sad 38:29)
The keyword is لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا (liyaddabbarū)—so that they may deeply reflect and ponder. This verb form (تَفَعَّلَ pattern) implies sustained, repeated contemplation—not a passing glance.
Tadabbur requires knowing what the words mean. Arabic grammar unlocks tadabbur. Without it, you recite beautifully but receive only a portion of what the Quran offers.

5. The Quran Actively Heals Shields and Brings Inner Peace
The Benefits of reading the Quran go beyond accumulated hasanat; the Quran actively heals, calms, and shields the believer in ways documented in both revelation and Prophetic tradition.
Allah describes the Quran as:
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Wa nunazzilu minal-Qur’āni mā huwa shifā’un wa raḥmatun lil-mu’minīn
“And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers.” (Al-Isra 17:82)
The word شِفَاءٌ (shifā’) means cure or healing—linguistically unrestricted. Scholars of tafsir include both spiritual healing (from doubt, hardness of heart) and broader mercy.
Peace of Heart Through Remembrance of Allah
Allah Says in Surah Al-Ra’d:
أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
Alā bidhikrillāhi taṭma’innul-qulūb
“Unquestionable, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.” (Al-Ra’d 13:28)
Recitation is dhikr—remembrance. Each session with the Quran is a direct fulfilment of this verse.
Protection from Shaytan Through Regular Recitation
Surah Al-Baqarah’s recitation in the home repels shaytan, as the Prophet ﷺ confirmed. A home where Al-Baqarah is not recited is described as empty of the angels of mercy.
6. Every Verse Memorized Elevates Your Station in Jannah
Your rank in Jannah from Quranic recitation rises in direct proportion to how much you read and memorize. The more you carry of the Quran, the higher you ascend—verse by verse.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“ يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَؤُهَا ”
“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse you recite.”
(Sunan Abi Dawud 1464)
This hadith establishes a direct equation: verses memorized = levels in Jannah. The verb ارْتَقِ (irtaqi)—rise, ascend—indicates movement upward with each verse.

7. Teaching the Quran Generates a Limitless Chain of Hasanat
Teaching others the Quran is promising beyond what your own recitation alone can generate. Every student you teach becomes a running chain of hasanat connected directly back to you.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 5027)
The Arabic construction خَيْرُكُمْ (khayrukum)—the best among you—places Quran teachers at the pinnacle of the community. This encompasses teaching recitation, meaning, and the Arabic language itself.
Every student you teach carries your reward forward. If they teach someone else, your reward continues—a chain of hasanat traced back to your effort.
This is why learning Quranic Arabic properly matters so much. Teaching wrong pronunciation or incorrect meaning carries its own accountability. Teaching correctly multiplies your reward with every student.

8. Certain Times and Places Multiply the Reward Exponentially
The time and place in which you recite the Quran directly shape how great its reward becomes; certain windows multiply what you earn far beyond a standard recitation session.
Recitation in the Final Third of the Night
The Prophet ﷺ described Allah descending to the lowest heaven in the final third of the night, accepting du’a and worship. Reciting the Quran during Tahajjud falls within this blessed window.
Recitation After Fajr and Asr
These two prayers mark times when angels gather and ascend. Reciting after them means your recitation is witnessed by ascending angels, a distinction mentioned in Quranic commentary.

Recitation in Ramadan
The Prophet ﷺ reviewed the entire Quran with Jibreel each Ramadan. Scholars note that rewards in Ramadan are multiplied in ways beyond ordinary calculation.
| Time of Recitation | Special Merit |
| Final third of the night | Allah’s direct acceptance and closeness |
| After Fajr prayer | Witnessed by ascending angels |
| After Asr prayer | Witnessed by ascending angels |
| During Ramadan | Multiplied rewards, following Prophetic Sunnah |
| On Fridays | Especially for Surah Al-Kahf |
